  • Why can't I access all HTTPS websites using Android 1.6?
    • [Error: the security certificate prompt. It states that there is a problem with the certificate. And it asks me to "Continue", view certificate, cancel or blank screen].

This is a defect with Android 1.6 but the newer versions of Android OS have more certs added.

Here is the response we received from Google:
Note that just because a site works on a desktop browser and does not work on an Android device does not mean that it is a device issue and not a server issue. Frequently server's are not properly configured to return immediate CA certificates as part of the certificate chain. This works most of the time because desktop browsers cache intermediate CAs they have seen on other sites, so if you hit a misconfigured server, you usually will find the intermediate already cached due to a visit to another site, even another part of the same web site that is properly configured. Android does not perform any such intermediate CA caching. We do try and contact the web server admins of any such sites that we discover to be misconfigured. As noted by some, if a CA is missing, one workaround is to use an alternative browser that has its own CA list. As noted above, Opera Mini is one such option, it proxies requests through its servers where they do the actual certificate chain validation. Mozilla Fennec for Android is another alternative that is in testing that does not rely on proxying data through a third party server.

  • What does the device do when both Wi-Fi and Cellular networks are present?

Press the END CALL/POWER button again to restart the phone. If the phone is not responding to any key presses remove the battery for 3 seconds and then reinsert the battery and turn on the phone.
